Foundation teach FUNdamentals of Power
Leeds United Foundation have launched a unique community programme which aims to teach young people how food intake, exercise and the kinetic movement of their favourite United players, helps light up their homes.
The ‘Power of Sport’ programme has been designed in partnership with Utilita Energy, Britain’s leading pre-pay smart energy supplier and will be delivered in Primary and Secondary schools across Leeds and West Yorkshire.
Pupils will learn how the speed of the likes of United home-grown favourites Alex Mowatt and Tyler Denton transfers to scientific energy output and the number of sprints and miles required to power their home electricity and watch their heroes on Sky Sports.
Leeds United Foundation Head of Fundraising, Simon Fox, said:
“Utilita Energy are a perfect fit partner for our new science, technology and health-based project and we’ve had some real fun putting it together with them. We often take for granted how easy it is to switch on the TV without having a real understanding of how much electrical energy that requires use and how that translates to movement on the pitch and in the playground. ”
The new project coincides with the club’s announcement of Utilita as the Official Energy Partner of the Club.
Jem Maidment, Utilita Energy’s Head of Communications, said:
“These are really exciting times for the Leeds United Foundation and Utilita Energy – we are honoured to be involved in the ‘Power of Sport’ programme. When we spoke to the club and Foundation we wanted the partnership to have a real impact and benefit in the community and this brand new STEM-based project will hopefully do just that.
“We are also delighted to incentivise the people of Leeds even further. With every household sign up to Utilita Energy we will donate £5 to the Foundation to help expand the brilliant community work the Club carries out and impact on more streets and homes across the city.”
The Foundation are the official Charity of the famous Elland Road club and support over 25,000 people across the city every year.
