Premier League Primary Stars
The Leeds United Foundation are proud to be a part of the Premier League Primary Stars programme.
Using the appeal of football and sport to connect with and inspire, the programme develops skills and ambitions both on and off the sports field with resources for girls and boys aged 5-11 years old.
Available from the autumn term 2016, the programme provides free curriculum-linked Key Stage 1 and 2 classroom resources for PE, but also Maths, English and Enterprise. New PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic) resources will use an array of sport examples to promote equality and diversity, encourage life skills such as teamwork and resilience and deliver key messaging such as anti-bullying. This will be available alongside a programme of activities, events and teacher support delivered by Premier League and Football League Clubs.
Through Premier League Primary Stars, the Premier League and professional football clubs aim to:
Use the appeal of the Premier League and professional football clubs to connect with young people and create healthier and more positive futures for all children in England and Wales. The programme will focus on developing the whole child - improving their physical literacy, enhancing their learning, and teaching them relevant life skills and behaviours.
Our ambitions include:
- helping primary teachers to deliver great PE and School Sport in their schools
- increasing children’s enjoyment, participation and skills in sport and other physical activity
- helping children develop the personal skills and values they need to achieve their goals
- enhancing children’s understanding of, and interest and confidence in, English and Maths
- supporting young people to take part in sport, outside school
The Premier League Primary Stars website will also contain activity ideas, films, interactive games, teacher support materials and downloadable resources for teachers and pupils. This will be supported by a range of "money can't buy" rewards and incentives available to teachers and pupils to encourage and recognise their engagement in the programme.
Football Clubs involved in Premier League Primary Stars will also offer identified schools trained staff to support the teachers in their delivery of PE, training and advice to teachers, events and competitions as well as opportunities to engage in programmes across the curriculum.
