The Big United Sleep Out
Thursday 14th April will see over 100 people take part in the 'Big United Sleep Out' in partnership with homeless charity, St George's Crypt. The fundraiser will provide crucial funds to help support the homeless and keep our children off the streets and safe from harm.
The sleep out aims to attract volunteers to face some of the challenges of homelessness by agreeing to sleep out overnight at Trinity Leeds.
St George’s Crypt CEO Chris Fields said,
“We are really pleased to be working alongside Leeds United Foundation in raising money for homeless people in Leeds and also to take steps to deter more people from ending up rough sleeping on our streets.
We look forward to a partnership through the Big United Sleep Out in raising a lot of money that will highlight homelessness in our city today and – through this initiative – to make a contribution towards preventing the spread of homelessness in our communities. The Crypt is proud of its partnership with Leeds United and the Foundation and we hope many people from all parts of our city will be moved to join the Big United Sleep Out”.
Commenting on the link up, Leeds United Foundation Head of Partnerships, Simon Fox said:
"We are thrilled to welcome St George's Crypt as a partner for the Big United Sleep Out. They are a hugely respected institution in the city and directly support those most in need, day in day out. The Big United Sleep Out also offers a great platform to commence our link and start a strong city-wide partnership.
We have also had feedback from the public, having spoken to them at length, that they would like to bring along their family and friends to support them on the Sleep Out at Trinity Leeds and engender even more camaraderie and support. As a result we've adjusted the date to ensure as many people as possible can join us in April to raise much needed funds for both the Crypt and the Foundation.
Retailer Marks & Spencer, which first started trading in Leeds Kirkgate market in 1884, is also supporting the initiative by providing a ‘Survivors Breakfast’ in the café at their Trinity Leeds store. Employees from the store will also be swapping their beds for blankets.
Leeds United legend Eddie Gray, Leeds Warrior Josh Warrington and Coronation Street star Colson Smith joined the launch at Trinity Leeds, encouraging fans, shoppers and the wider public to sign up and lend their support.
Every volunteer who takes part in the Sleep Out will receive two tickets to a Leeds United home game as a big 'thank you' from the Foundation and St George's Crypt.
